South LA shooting: Man killed by LAPD after domestic violence incident

SOUTH LOS ANGELES

Authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the 4100 block of S. Normandie Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect in the backyard. They said he was armed with a handgun. There was a confrontation, and officers opened fire.

After the officer-involved shooting, they found a woman in her 70s who had been shot in the ear.

Neighbors say it appeared to be a case of domestic violence, and said the couple was in the midst of a divorce.

"After I heard her say, 'Help, help, I've been shot,' after that, I didn't hear nothing else," said one neighbor, who did not want to be identified. "She was screaming for somebody to help her."

The female victim was rushed to a local hospital, where she is in stable condition.

The shooter was identified only as a man in his 70s.
