Gang member charged in fatal shooting of 6-year-old Tiana Ricks

RIVERSIDE, Calif.

Keandre Narkie Johnson, 21, has been charged with one count of murder, attempted murder and participation in a criminal street gang. There is also a special circumstance allegation that the murder was committed to further the activities of a criminal street gang.

Johnson made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon, but his arraignment was postponed to Oct. 1.

Prosecutors say Tiana Ricks and her 26-year-old father were among a group of people in the garage area of a home on Harker Lane in Moreno Valley when shots were fired on Sept. 7. Both Tiana and her father were struck. They were rushed to a local hospital, where Tiana later died.

Numerous tips from the public led to the identification of Johnson as the suspect in the shooting, according to the district attorney's office said. Johnson, a documented member of the Moreno Valley-based criminal street gang Edgemont Criminals, was arrested without incident Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Johnson was on parole for a 2011 burglary conviction in Riverside County, but he had failed to report to his parole officer.
