Laguna Beach motorcycle officer honored with large motorcade

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif.

Officials from many different agencies took place in the procession, paying tribute to Laguna Beach motorcycle officer Jon Coutchie.

The 42-year-old former U.S. Army Ranger is the first Laguna Beach officer to die in the line of duty in 60 years.

Coutchie was killed following a crash involving a pickup truck at the intersection of South Coast Highway and Cleo Street Saturday.

Police said Coutchie was going northbound on South Coast Highway trying to locate a speeding vehicle that had eluded another officer, when his motorcycle collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck that attempted to make a turn. He died at the scene.

A private viewing was held at the mortuary in Long Beach Tuesday.

A funeral service was scheduled for Friday.
