Glendale hit-and-run: 2 women seriously injured

GLENDALE, Calif.

The incident happened at the corner of Central and California avenues around 8 p.m. Witnesses said the women waited for the light to turn green and then stepped off the curb. They were hit almost immediately by a driver who fled the scene.

Authorities say a 73-year-old woman was taken to a hospital where she was listed in grave condition. The other victim, a 59-year-old woman, was listed in serious condition.

"They were crossing northbound with their green light when a vehicle traveling eastbound from the west failed to stop for the light, striking both pedestrians in the crosswalk," said Sgt. Tom Lorenz with the Glendale Police Department.

The suspect vehicle was described as a light-colored, possibly gray, compact car. Investigators say they are checking area businesses for surveillance footage.

Glendale police say this comes on the heels of another hit-and-run crash on Wednesday that left a 75-year-old woman in critical condition.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Glendale Police Department.
