Woman intervenes, saves girl from kidnap attempt; suspect arrested

COMPTON, Calif.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, a black man about 25 to 35 years old with dreadlocks attempted to kidnap a 14-year-old girl walking to school near Atlantic Avenue and Compton Boulevard, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept.

The suspect allegedly exited his car, grabbed the girl and dragged her toward his car. A woman driving by stopped and pulled the suspect off the victim. The suspect drove away in a maroon 1993 Chevrolet Camaro with "T-tops."

The suspect then drove 2 miles westbound on Compton and approximately 15 minutes later attempted to kidnap another female juvenile on her way to school. The victim was able to run to her residence.

Sheriff's investigators were able to determine the license plate number of the Camaro and create a composite sketch of the suspect, and a photo of the vehicle was released to law enforcement and schools in the area.

The suspect was located and arrested on October 4. He was booked for attempted kidnapping and held on $100,000 bail.
