Murrieta student tests positive for tuberculosis

MURRIETA, Calif.

The Vista Murrieta High School student is not in class and will not return until a medical clearance is received, according to the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. The student is being treated and is expected to make a full recovery.

Health officials are keeping a close eye on teachers and other students who may have come into contact with that student. Those students and staff will receive an email and phone call from the school recommending them to be tested for TB at a clinic on campus.

"The health and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. We appreciate the support of officials at the County of Riverside Department of Public Health and are following their protocol for identifying and testing students and staff who may have been exposed," Vista Murrieta High School Principal Mick Wager said in a phone call to parents.

For more information, parents can contact their health care provider or the Public Health Department Disease Control at (951) 358-5107.
