Two people charged with murder in the 2012 deaths of two University of Southern California, Los Angeles graduate students pleaded not guilty on Thursday.

Bryan Barnes, 20, and Javier Bolden, 19, were charged with capital murder and other counts for the deaths of engineering students Ming Qu and Ying Wu, both 23, during a suspected robbery last April.

Qu and Wu were sitting in a car on the 2700 block of Raymond Avenue near campus when they were gunned down. Barnes and Bolden are due back in court on Jan. 23 for a pretrial hearing.

Last month, a judge ruled there was enough evidence in the case to proceed and ordered the defendants to stand trial.
