Presenters at the show included Julia Roberts, Sean Penn and Sigourney Weaver.
Many people received honorary awards, including actor Sir Ben Kingsley, who was recognized for his worldwide contribution to entertainment.
"I'm so locked in the moment of storytelling, I don't have any perspective on what history I'm making. It's so much to do with telling the story. Somebody once said 'either you're an artist or an historian -- you can't be both,'" said Kingsley.
Proceeds raised support BAFTA LA's efforts in education, scholarship, community outreach and archival projects.
