Cool Kid has goals to serve, protect community

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

Danilo is a 17-year-old senior, who loves being involved with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Explorer Program.

"The first two meetings, I saw what they did and I like it. I said, 'Wow, that's something I want to do in the future, learn about it, get into it,'" Danilo said.

He already has the right attitude to be that man to wear the badge.

"I want to feel like I'm helping out, like just feel I'm helping out my community, and I want to, one day, maybe serve and protect my community," Danilo said.

Danilo has a busy schedule at Rancho Cucamonga High School, and many are impressed at how he is able to do so much for the Explorers.

"Explorer Montanez is a very dedicated young man. He donates approximately 40 to 50 hours a month on top of school work," said Deputy Mike Mason with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

On those days where he has so much going on, Danilo knows his goal is worth it.

"All this hard work I'm going through right now is all going to pay off. So, that's how I see it," Danilo said.

Danilo can see himself as someone who will protect and serve his community. He's already a Cool Kid, who is helping that community now.
