Pomona 14-year-old girl shot; motive unknown

POMONA, Calif.

The incident occurred on the 1000 block of Laurel Avenue around 10:55 a.m.

Neighbor Alex Gonzalez, who happens to be a registered nurse, ran out of his house to help. He says the girl was shot in the abdomen.

"There was a guy that was with her, crying and carrying her, asking for help," said Gonzalez.

The Pomona teen was found conscious and flown to a local hospital. Pomona police say she is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the teen girl and a male were walking in the area when two suspects got out of a vehicle and approached them. Investigators say one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the girl. Both suspects then took off.

Authorities are not sure if the male was struck by gunfire because they have not been able to locate him.

No arrests have been made. The suspects were only described as two Hispanic males. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Police were asking neighbors or residents who may have heard or seen anything to contact authorities.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting was urged to contact the Pomona Police Department at (909) 620-2095.
