Tyler Perry spreads holiday cheer in 'A Madea Christmas'

LOS ANGELES

In the film, the title character finds herself in the country for a holiday filled with secrets and lies, but all in the name of love and family. Madea's got some work to do and some punch lines to punch.

I told Perry that Madea speaks faster than anyone I've seen in the movies since the 1940s.

"Well, that's when she was born, so it all makes sense. She's supposed to talk real fast so everybody don't know what the hell she's saying when she says it," Perry quickly says in Madea's voice.

Tika Sumpter plays Madea's secretive niece, and you know secrets will be revealed.

"It's just about family and love and fun and just accepting one another as they are. Every family has an embarrassing person, as we can see -- Madea, my family, Larry the Cable Guy -- but they're amazing together," said Sumpter.

Besides playing Madea, Perry also gets credit for writing, producing and directing the film.

"He plays a character and he loves playing that character. It makes him laugh and it gives him an escape. Same with me," Larry the Cable Guy said. "There were some scenes where you just throw the script out. I'd say half the movie is adlib."

The movie opens on Friday.
