Keenum out; Schaub to start against Broncos

HOUSTON

Interim head coach Wade Phillips today said that quarterback Case Keenum is out with a torn ligament in his thumb, an injury he suffered in the game against Indianapolis. Matt Schaub will be under center against Denver on Sunday.

"Our team is 100 percent behind (Schaub)," said Phillips. "I know our real fans are going to be cheering for our team and also for him because he's had a rough year like we all have."

Phillips also announced that running back Ben Tate was done for the year with another cracked ribs. He had been playing with four, but now a fifth one's cracked so he's going on injured reserve. Jonathan Grimes will take his spot on the roster.

The Texans are 2-12 on the season, having lost 12 consecutive games after come-from-behind wins against San Diego and Tennessee to start the year. Former head coach Gary Kubiak was fired when the streak hit 11 games.

Schaub was the starting quarterback until he was injured during the game against the Rams, which is when Keenum took over and has been the starter ever since.
