A former maintenance worker at a Yorba Linda assisted living senior home was sentenced Friday in a sexual assault case.

David Moreno, 29, of Riverside, was sentenced to three years in state prison and must register as a sex offender for sexually assaulting a 69-year-old disabled woman at Emeritus Senior Living.

Moreno pleaded guilty on Dec. 6 to one felony count each of sexual battery on an institutionalized victim and sexual penetration by foreign object of an incompetent victim.

Prosecutors said that between June 1 and July 24 in 2012, Moreno entered the room of the victim, who was suffering from dementia, and sexually assaulted her. The victim told a close friend that she had been assaulted by Moreno.

The case was reported to the Brea Police Department, and investigators were able to link DNA evidence found in the victim's room to Moreno. He was arrested on Nov. 5, 2012.

Moreno's lifetime sex offender registration bars him from entering county recreational areas and city parks.
