Echo Park Lake lotus plants are fine - expert

After a multi-million dollar restoration effort, there is already concern the lotus plants in Echo Park Lake are dying.

But the man who sold the plants to the city says not to worry. Horticulturist Randy McDonald says the plants are fine, despite their brown color.

Because they are perennial flowers, they spend part of the year dormant.

The plants died out in 2008 but were replanted last summer.

McDonald says they should begin to bloom again in June.
