OTRC: Carly Rae Jepsen to make Broadway debut in 'Cinderella' musical

"Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen is heading to Broadway!

The 28-year-old Canadian pop star will play the title role in Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella The Musical," starting on Feb. 4, 2014 for 12 weeks, organizers say. Jepsen, whose hit song "Call Me Maybe" was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart for nine weeks in 2012, joins Fran Drescher of "The Nanny" fame, who will play her wicked stepmother. Both are making their Broadway debuts.

Jepsen will replace Laura Osnes, who will complete her yearlong run in January, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

Jepsen has had musical theatre experience before, when she was a teenager -- she starred in "Annie," "The Wiz" and "Grease" before attending the Canadian College of Performing Arts, the newspaper said.

Cinderella's story is "so hopeful and inspiring," it quoted her as saying, adding: "I've always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely."

"Stil in Italia bt getn butterflies in tummy abt my debut in Cinderella! Oh well, betr eat some mor pasta! (sic)" Drescher tweeted on Dec. 10.
