Officers were dispatched to the 11100 block of Mountain Avenue around 1:48 a.m. regarding a fight.
A short time later, officers were dispatched to Kaiser Hospital referencing a stabbing victim.
During the later investigation, authorities learned Christian Cano, 18, of Riverside had been stabbed at the Mountain Avenue address. Cano was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.
It appears a group of people were celebrating New Years' in a backyard. As the victim and his friends left the residence, a verbal confrontation occurred down the street.
A physical fight between two groups of people ensued. That's when the victim was fatally stabbed.
No arrests have been made.
