Police say they started pursuing the black pickup truck around 4 a.m. in Westminster. Authorities say they spotted the vehicle driving erratically and spinning along a freeway. When they tried to pull the driver over, he refused, initiating a pursuit.
The chase lasted about 75 minutes and ended on the eastbound 101 Freeway in Encino near Van Nuys Boulevard.
Authorities used spike strips to try to get that car to stop, but the driver kept going. At some points, the truck fish tailed and the driver nearly lost control.
Then, with most of the tires blown out and down to the rims, the suspect hopped back on the freeway. That's when police used the PIT maneuver, sending the driver in circles on the 101.
The suspect attempted to keep going but couldn't gain control of his car.
After a brief standoff, police approached the truck and took the driver into custody.
