The crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. at Getty Center Drive on the northbound side of the freeway. One person was killed; their name has not yet been released.
Initially, all northbound lanes were shut between Moraga and Getty Center drives. At about 5:30 a.m., one lane was reopened, letting traffic squeeze by. However, traffic was already clogged about 1.5 miles back to Sunset.
At 8:30 a.m., CHP announced that all lanes had reopened.
Southbound lanes were open, but onlookers jammed traffic from Sherman Way to Getty Center Drive. Motorists were advised to take Sepulveda Boulevard through the pass.
