Colton barricade forces apartment evacuation

COLTON, Calif.

The incident began following reports of gunfire coming from a car on the 1000 block of South La Cadena Street.

Responding officers located the car on the 100 block of East M Street and made three arrests. That's when, police say, a fourth armed suspect ran into a nearby apartment building where he was tackled by a resident.

"I decided to do my jiu-jitsu that I do, I mounted him, threw him a couple punches," said witness Eddie Nava. "He started to squirm and as he was squirming it hit me in my head that he had a gun, so that's when I started to apprehend his hands, controlling his hands."

The suspect broke free and barricaded himself inside another nearby apartment with several juveniles.

The Inland Valley SWAT team and hostage negotiators responded to the scene and arrested him after evacuating part of the building.

No one was injured. The juveniles were reunited with their parents.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the investigation was urged to contact Detective R. Wilson at (909) 370-5021.
