Man accused of shooting at San Bernardino County deputy

VICTORVILLE, Calif.

Shawn Munoz, a 31-year-old resident of Ontario, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer.

The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. as the deputy was returning to his vehicle after making a traffic stop in the area of Hesperia Road and Green Tree Boulevard.

The deputy said he saw a silver Chrysler 300 coming toward him on Hesperia Road. According to investigators, the vehicle slowed and a window on the driver's side was lowered half way. The deputy saw muzzle flashes and heard four gunshots coming from the car.

The deputy returned gunfire as the driver fled north on Hesperia Road. Detectives said they later found a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle on the 13800 block of Apple Creek Drive, which is within blocks of where the shooting happened. Investigators found evidence consistent with a gun being shot from within the vehicle.

Authorities said they recovered a .45 caliber handgun, ammunition, a Mini-14 rifle with two 30-round magazines, and gang paraphernalia.

Anyone with information about this case was asked to contact the Victorville Police Department at (760) 241-2911.
