Oxnard officer-shooting victim was armed w/ replica guns

OXNARD, Calif.

Police responded to a call of a woman at Del Sol Park around 12:30 p.m. The woman, who was allegedly armed with a loaded handgun, was threatening to kill herself.

The woman pointed a weapon at responding officers. That's when they opened fire, wounding her. She was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition.

On Thursday, police said the 42-year-old woman, who is believed to be a transient, was in possession of two replica firearms at the time of the incident.

No officers were injured in the shooting. The officers involved in the shooting have been put on leave, which is standard procedure following officer-involved shootings.
