3 wild car chases across Southland in 1 night

EL MONTE, Calif.

In El Monte, a short chase ended when the driver of a 1990 four-door Acura crashed into the sidewalk near Elrovia Avenue and Ranchito Street. Authorities said the alleged grand theft auto suspect fled on foot, prompting a lockdown of the neighborhood. The suspect search was still underway as of 11 p.m.

Another dangerous pursuit took place on the streets of Willowbrook. Officers tried to attempt the PIT maneuver twice, but each time the suspect was able to speed away. At one point, the suspect had to change direction when his path was blocked by a passing train.

The driver finally stopped in a Willowbrook neighborhood. Officers moved in with guns drawn and took the driver and a passenger into custody.

And in Orange County, a pursuit began with a simple traffic violation in Anaheim. It came to an end on a cul-de-sac on the 2300 block of West Wilshire Avenue in Santa Ana when the white sedan got blocked in by the dozens of police cruisers that had been engaged in the pursuit. A male driver and a female passenger were both arrested.
