Three cases of measles have been confirmed in Orange County over the last six weeks. Two of the subjects were determined to have acquired measles during travel to Asia, but the third case had no travel history, the department said.
Measles cases have also been reported in Los Angeles County, according to the department. Further details were not released. An investigation was underway in Riverside County to identify non-immune contacts and the potential source.
Health care facilities were advised to ensure health care workers are immune to measles.
Patients displaying a fever and a rash should be considered for measles, the department said. Measles can be infectious for four days before the rash shows. The rash is red, blotchy and usually starts on the hairline and face and spreads downward to the rest of the body.
