Santa Monica to spend over $100K to ID buildings for retrofit

February 14, 2014 12:00:00 AM PST
Santa Monica plans to spend about $105,000 over the next year to identify buildings in the city that are vulnerable in earthquakes.

The survey is expected to cover hundreds of structures, including office towers, older concrete buildings and wood multi-story apartments. Vulnerable buildings will be required to undergo seismic retrofitting.

Los Angeles is considering doing similar surveys.
