Police are investigating what led up to the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Flower Street shortly after 2:30 a.m.
A total of three people were transported to an area hospital, where one of the victims was pronounced dead.
The vehicles ended up on the train tracks causing some delays to the Metro Blue Line.
Investigators are looking into whether or not alcohol was a factor in the incident.
