Lake Balboa fatal hit-and-run suspects sought

LAKE BALBOA, LOS ANGELES

The incident occurred near Victory Boulevard, just west of Densmore Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

Michael Joel Alvarez, 18, was allegedly lying on the road, not in a crosswalk, when he was struck twice. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

LAPD Det. Bill Bustos says it appears two different vehicles were involved in the incident.

The first vehicle was described as a newer model silver four-door sedan, possibly a Honda Accord. The second vehicle was described as a late 90's model brown Honda Accord.

Police say both drivers stopped momentarily to check on the victim, but then took off.

"We're looking for that individual to please contact us," said Bustos. "We want to know a little bit more about what happened from his perspective, and anybody else who might have driven in this area at that time and who might have witnessed this tragic incident."

It remains unclear why Alvarez was lying on the road. Police believe he was likely committing suicide.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the fatal-hit-and run was urged to contact LAPD Valley officer Fuentes at (818) 644-8022 or Detective Kilgrow at (818) 644-8025.
