Pico-Union shooting: $50K reward announced, 2 witnesses sought

PICO-UNION, LOS ANGELES

Atilio Benavides-Amaya, 40, was shot and killed on Nov. 6, 2013. He had just gotten off a bus near 14th Street and Union Avenue.

Wednesday, detectives released surveillance video of possible witnesses to what they say was a senseless murder.

"We are not indicating they are suspects. We believe they might have been in the area at the time of the homicide and might be witnesses to the crime. So we are looking hopefully to identify them and speak to them and see if they have any information that can help us with this crime," said LAPD Detective Ray Martinez.

Investigators also announced a $50,000 reward they hope will help lead to the killers.

Amaya was only half a block from home when he was shot. His mother tearfully remembered hearing gunshots and not realizing until later her son was the victim.

Investigators say Amaya was not a gang member.
