Water main break sends water gushing in Santa Ana neighborhood

SANTA ANA, Calif.

The rupture of the 12-inch main was reported around 1:40 a.m. in the 700 block of Pomona Street near South Parton Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they found several blocks in the neighborhood of West Pomona Street near Edinger Avenue filled with water. Public Works crews found a large crack in the street and a break in the water main.

Water service was shut off to two nearby homes but not before several blocks were flooded with water and mud. It doesn't appear that any homes were flooded, but the water seeped up sidewalks, driveways and lawns.

Police blocked off several streets in the area due to the flooding. Most of the flooding subsided by around 5 a.m., but streets will likely be closed for most of the morning as crews work to repair the broken main.

Authorities said the intersection of Parton and West Pomona Street will likely be closed until around noon.
