Pedestrians fatally struck in Norwalk identified

Police have identified the young couple who was struck and killed while walking across a street in Norwalk Saturday.

The two victims were identified as 23-year-old Giovanni Xavier Chaidez and 20-year-old Rosibel Montoya.

Police say Chaidez and Montoya were crossing the street with their bicycles in the 13000 block of Rosecrans Avenue when they were hit shortly after midnight.

The pickup also ran into several parked cars after hitting the victims. The driver stopped and has not been charged so far. His identity has not been released.

Friends gathered at the crash site Sunday night to remember the couple. Chaidez was attending culinary school with his brother. Montoya was attending college and studying biology.
