Toriano Benford, 43, was arrested Monday for the murder of Earnest Dewitt Brannon. Police say the men were roommates and living at the same location where the murder occurred.
The victim was found by a tenant in a back bedroom inside the home on West 98th Street at 10:43 p.m. Sunday. The man appeared to have been strangled.
On Tuesday, the coroner's office confirmed Brannon died of neck compression and sharp force neck injury.
Benford was being held in lieu of $1 million.
