Brush fire burns near Gorman by Quail Lake

GORMAN, Calif.

The Pine Fire was burning on state land near Highway 138 near Quail Lake. It was reported at about 1:20 p. m. Officials said the fire was about 35 percent contained at 9:35 p.m.

Old Ridge Route south of the 138 was closed due to nearby flames. Lake Hughes Road at Pine Canyon Road was ordered closed due to the fire. Three Points Road at Pine Canyon Road and Lancaster Road (State Route 138) and Ridge Route Road were affected.

Ground crews were on the scene and two water-dropping helicopters were assisting, including at least one "super-scooper" plane.

Firefighters were in "structure protection mode," but no evacuations were officially ordered.

The L.A. County Fire Department said 195 firefighting personnel were involved.

Winds were blowing approximately 10-15 mph, with 11 percent humidity in the area when the fire started; 25-35 mph gusts were expected overnight.

No injuries or damage to property were reported.
