Jury duty telephone scam targets Riverside residents

RIVERSIDE, Calif.

The calls have occurred throughout the city and county of Riverside. Scammers call unsuspecting victims, claiming to be a Riverside County Sheriff's Department employee and demanding payment via a Green Dot transaction to clear up an outstanding warrant.

Those targeted are also told they do not need to show up for jury duty if they pay a fine to clear the warrant. Other personal information is also asked for.

Both Riverside police and sheriff's deputies do not call residents to notify them of outstanding warrants.

To report similar incidents, call Riverside Police at (951) 354-2007.
