Police responded to the 5300 block of Mecca Avenue around 5:10 p.m. after a woman reported the elderly man was threatening to kill her and himself. She said he was armed with a knife and a rifle.
When SWAT officers arrived, the suspect walked from the rear of his residence, armed with a shotgun. A confrontation ensued, and the man was shot at least once in the chest.
Paramedics treated the man and transported him to a local hospital. His condition remains unknown.
No one else was injured in the shooting.
