The incident began with a child abuse report in the 600 block of 6th Street just before 10 p.m. Saturday.
Deputies said when they arrived, the suspect shot at them and they returned fire. The suspect fled on-foot.
A perimeter was setup and an area of the neighborhood was blocked off while the suspect barricaded himself inside the home.
Special Enforcement Bureau personnel responded and contacted the suspect, who exited the building and surrendered to deputies.
No deputies were hurt
The suspect was later identified as David Martinez, 30, of Commerce. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A firearm was recovered at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information was released.
