Kidnap suspect search closes downtown LA streets

FBI and LAPD personnel were in pursuit of a kidnapping suspect considered armed and dangerous. The chase began in the area of Boyle Heights around 12:30 p.m. Affected streets were re-opened by 3 p.m.

The suspect, identified as Jesus Ramirez, was seen running into a building on the 800 block of Broadway after abandoning a red and gray Ford Expedition at 9th and Broadway. He may have run across the street from there. A perimeter was set up in the area and a command post was set up at Broadway and Olympic.

Ramirez was taken into custody at the Pepper Tree Motel in North Hollywood at about 5:30 p.m. He was to be booked at the Van Nuys Jail.

Ramirez was described as having a skull tattoo on the right side of his neck, with multiple tattoos on his chest. He was considered armed and dangerous before his capture.

Ramirez, 31, was wanted for four counts of kidnapping and one count of aggravated robbery by Ramsey County in Minnesota, according to the Saint Paul Police Department. Ramirez is a suspected gang member from Los Angeles.
