The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. Police say Hector Delgadillo, 62, was driving westbound on Seventh Street in a 1997 black Honda Accord when he struck the pedestrian, who was crossing near F Street. The pedestrian was thrown several feet and landed in the road, police said.
The victim underwent emergency surgery at Ventura County Medical Center, where he later died. His name was being withheld pending notification of kin.
Delgadillo was not injured. It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor, police said.
