14-year-old boy arrested for beating elderly woman

HEMET, Calif.

The 14-year-old was arrested Thursday at a hotel in Temecula. He is expected to face charges of attempted murder, burglary and torture.

On April 17, officers responded to a burglary and assault call shortly after 3 a.m. in the 800 block of West Oakland Avenue. The elderly woman was asleep and woke up to two boys inside her apartment in Camelot Independent Living Facility, police said. One of suspects then allegedly beat her.

Police arrested a 15-year-old suspect later that day. He was booked into Southwest Juvenile Hall and was being held without bail.

Hemet police released a photo and description of the 14-year-old boy on Thursday. They said in a news release that they normally do not release information for juveniles, but made an exception "due to the serious nature of this case."

The woman remains hospitalized in critical condition.
