Man attempts to kidnap Azusa High School student, exposes self, police say

AZUSA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man exposed himself to an Azusa High School after attempting to kidnap her, according to officials.

Azusa police said the student was walking to school near First Street and Azusa Avenue on March 16 when 30-year-old Adam Schumm approached her.

Detectives said Schumm tried to grab the student and pull her into his vehicle, but the girl was able to get away.

Schumm followed the girl, driving alongside her trying to talk to the student as she continued to walk school, officials stated.

According to police, Schumm then exposed himself to the child.

When the student took a picture of Schumm's vehicle and license plate, police said Schumm drove off.

Once the girl arrived at school, she reported the incident to police. Officials said Schumm was tracked down and arrested on March 18.

Detectives believed Schumm may have committed similar crimes in the area. Fontana police were working with other agencies to determine if Schumm was linked to any similar incidents.

Schumm was charged with multiple counts of indecent exposure and attempted kidnapping. Officials said he faces eight years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender if convicted.
