Bear cub with burned paws rescued from wildfire

WENATCHEE, Wash. (KABC) -- A badly burned black bear is on the road to recovery after surviving a devastating wildfire in Washington that has scorched nearly 400 square miles and destroyed hundreds of homes since mid-July.

The 6-month-old cub took shelter under a horse trailer during the fire to find some shade, but suffered severe third-degree burns on all four paws.

Steve Love spotted the cub hobbling on its knees along his driveway.

He gave it water and fed it apricots from his tree until a state Fish and Wildfire officer was able to capture the cub.

The bear, nicknamed "Cinder," was then flown to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Center.

Veterinarians at the rehab center are now treating the cub and feeding it a diet of yogurt and dog food.
