Man killed in Bell Gardens alley; suspect at large

BELL GARDENS, Calif. (KABC) -- A 36-year-old man was shot to death in an alley in Bell Gardens Wednesday night, and the suspect remains outstanding.

Authorities said the man who was killed is a known gang member who had been looking for cans, bottles or scrap metal in an alley in the 6000 block of Buell Street.

Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide detectives are assisting Bell Gardens police with the investigation. Detectives responded to the area around 11:51 p.m. after residents in the area reported hearing gunshots.

While authorities checked the area for the source of the gunshots, Bell Gardens officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the alley. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said it was unclear if the murder was gang related.
