24-year-old mechanic shot by female suspect in Boyle Heights

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles police are searching for a female suspect who allegedly shot a 24-year-old mechanic in Boyle Heights Monday night.

The shooting occurred just before 7 p.m. in the 1800 block of E. 5th Street.

LAPD Officer Mike Lopez said the victim was outside repairing a car when an unknown woman approached him and began a brief conversation. She opened fire and ran off, Lopez said.

The neighborhood mechanic is listed in critical condition but expected to survive.

Witnesses told police they saw the woman get into a gray or silver van driven by an unidentified man. It was last seen going northbound on Boyle Avenue, Lopez said.
