2 women injured in Buena Park hit-and-run after interrupting tagger, police say

BUENA PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Two women were injured in a Buena Park hit-and-run collision Tuesday evening after they interrupted a tagger who was attempting to vandalize a stop sign, authorities said.

The incident began shortly after 10 p.m. in the area of Fullerton Avenue and Artesia Boulevard, said Sgt. Dirk O'Dette of the Buena Park Police Department.

According to Norma Diaz, she was driving a Jeep when she and her female passenger saw a man exit a van and attempt to climb onto a stop sign with a can of spray paint. When the man saw the two women, Diaz said, he threw the can at the Jeep's windshield and reentered the van.

Diaz said she tried to park alongside the van to get its license plate number, and her passenger got out of the Jeep. The van's driver allegedly put that vehicle in reverse, striking the woman.

Diaz then exited the Jeep herself, she said, and confronted the driver of the van, who again moved the vehicle in reverse, causing her to fall. She suffered scrapes to her head and arms.

The vandal fled the scene, police said, and the Jeep's passenger was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center in unknown condition.
