SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- Vidiots, a popular video store in Santa Monica, will not be closing in April after receiving a sizeable donation from a film producer and a longtime customer.

The owners, Patty Polinger and her lifelong friend Cathy Tauber, announced this week they were closing in April. The video store was losing money due to stiff competition with national chains such as Blockbuster and Hollywood Video.

Fans rallied on social media to save the store, and were surprised to hear that their prayers were answered.

"I expressed my condolences and, you know, found out that there was a reprieve, and I was really happy about it," said Diane Halperin, a loyal fan who says she now gets to continue to binge-watch her shows "that don't come fast enough on Netflix."

Vidiots opened in 1985 with 800 titles. Their collection has grown to 50,000 movies. The owners would like to keep the collection preserved for the future.
