WILMINGTON, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man is recovering Saturday morning after he was struck by a bullet during a shootout between police and a chase suspect in Wilmington.

Police say they were chasing a man in a white minivan who was driving erratically at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, hit two moving cars and then got out and began shooting at police.

Officers fired back, hitting and wounding the suspect.

During the shootout, a stray bullet struck a person inside an apartment building. The innocent man was hit in the leg and is expected to be OK.

The wounded suspect, believed to be in his 30s, was in surgery, police said. No officers were injured.

The people inside the vehicles that were hit during the chase were not injured.
