Robbers hit doughnut shop, fast-food restaurant in similar incidents in Orange County

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A doughnut shop and a fast-food restaurant were robbed in similar incidents overnight Wednesday in Orange County, authorities said.

The first robbery, captured on surveillance video, was reported shortly after 1 a.m. at a Winchell's Donuts at the intersection of Magnolia Street and Warner Avenue, said Sgt. James Cataline of the Fountain Valley Police Department.

Footage from an in-store camera shows an employee crawling face-down on the ground while one of the suspects takes cash from the register. The overnight baker was the only person in the building when the robbers entered, according to the shop's manager.

The suspects are described as men in their 20s wearing all black clothing and hoodies. One of them may have been armed with a gun, police said.

Two hours earlier, two robbers also took cash, cellphones and wallets from a Carl's Jr. in the 24900 block of Alicia Parkway in Laguna Hills, said a spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The suspects seemed to match the description of the robbers in the doughnut shop holdup, according to investigators.

No one was injured in either incident.
