SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- Santa Ana police and California Highway Patrol officers were in a standoff with a chase suspect in a blue Corvette just off the 55 Freeway Monday before the woman was taken into custody.

The chase terminated in a crash at Auto Mall Drive and Edinger, where the 47-year-old female suspect remained in the vehicle as several officers blocked the roadway.

A SWAT team was called in as officers cleared the road of other motorists. Two SWAT vehicles boxed the Corvette in before the Fullerton woman surrendered to authorities peacefully.

According to police, the chase started when the woman was driving in the carpool lane of the 55 Freeway near the Chapman exit. She blew past a highway patrol officer at well over 100 mph, according to authorities.

When the officer attempted to pull her over, she took off and began passing other cars in the center divider, authorities said.

The woman exited at Edinger then ran a red light, striking a vehicle before initiating the standoff with police.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital. No weapons or other passengers were located in the vehicle, according to police.
