Summer camp teaching kids to become technologically savvy

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- Kids are learning Java, web design and game design at CodeREV summer camp.

Evan Boorman founded CodeREV because he wanted to give kids an opportunity to learn important computer skills early on.

"To me this was the missing link that our current curriculum was not hitting. I was looking around and saying, technology is becoming more and more relevant; let's give an opportunity for kids to learn these important really relevant skills early on in life," Boorman said.

CodeREV is not only educational, but it is also fun.

"There's plenty of play. The kids don't even know they're learning most of the time," program director Luis Morales said.

Odell Kalish, 14, loves the program.

"Awesome. It's a great hobby. It can really lead to the future," he said.

The camp is designed for kids in first through eighth grade and is offered in six different locations this year - Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Simi Valley, Encino, Irvine and San Diego.

CodeREV will continue every week until August.
