MAYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- The tiny city of Maywood is jumping in on the cannabis craze, hoping it will result in big profits.

A new dispensary, Cookies Los Angeles, opened its doors Tuesday morning with customers excited about the central location of the business.

"Just it being so close to us. Pretty much the travel, and the distance to get some of this kind of stuff. Also, the O.C. one didn't have as many flavors," said customer Victor Dominguez

The 24,000-square-foot facility is open every day, 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. All you need to purchase marijuana is a valid California ID showing you're over 21.

"L.A. is considered the cannabis headquarters of the world, Maywood being the center of L.A. County, one of the most densely populated areas. We're bringing great opportunity and hopefully great fortune to the city," said Daniel Dvorsky, the co-owner of Cookies Los Angeles.

"Not everywhere in L.A. you can get pot recreationally legal so a lot of people are going to be coming here from all over the place," said customer Ivan Alvarado.

The agreement between the dispensary and the city of Maywood is a direct six percent tax that is expected to generate millions in revenue for the city. This dispensary is the first micro-business in L.A. County.

"From seed to sale, we grow, we process all by hand, we package, we trim, we make our extracts and we handle our retails right here on site," said Dvorsky.
