Suspect sought in stabbing of Covina gas station clerk

COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- Covina police released surveillance video Tuesday of a suspect wanted for allegedly stabbing a 62-year-old gas station clerk during a robbery attempt.

The incident was reported at a 76 gas station in the 600 block of S. Barranca Avenue at about 5 p.m. Monday, Covina police Sgt. Gregg Peterson said.

"After the victim fended off the attack, the suspect immediately left the store without taking any property and entered the driver's seat of a black 2000 model, Chevrolet SUV -- with no plates -- that was parked near the front doors of the business," Peterson said.

The suspect was described as a dark-skinned Hispanic or light-skinned black man. He was last seen wearing a dark shirt, blue jeans and a black beanie.

The clerk, whose name was withheld, was airlifted to a local hospital and treated for stab wounds to his left arm.
