Cancer patients get therapy, taste of 'Dancing with the Stars' at the same time

TORRANCE, Calif. (KABC) -- A sport that's tricky on the knees is turning out to be therapeutic for local women battling breast cancer. They're getting a taste of what it's like to be on "Dancing with the Stars."

Each day, 46-year-old Annamaria Cody celebrates life by trying new things. She's dancing for herself and her sister who passed away from breast cancer.

Cody became a mammographer at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. She says early annual screening saved her.

Now a year later, she's cancer-free, and she's celebrating with a dance lesson from "Dancing with the Stars" pro Anna Trebunskaya.

This is Trebunskaya's fifth "Dance or Bust" event for cancer patients. For her, the reward is seeing the ladies light up.

For Cody, learning new dance steps is how she looks at life. Each new adventure is a chance to shine.
